'Just another beef sandwich': Karpency brings veteran savvy against Nyika
Australian heavyweight Justis Huni faces tricky Kiwi opponent
Justis Huni faces his toughest test yet as a professional boxer when he takes on New Zealander Kiki Nyika at Newcastle Entertainment Centre on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old Huni has won all six of his professional fights since turning pro in 2021, but Nyika is a seasoned veteran with a wealth of experience at the highest level.
Nyika, 28, is a former Commonwealth Games gold medallist and represented New Zealand at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Karpency brings veteran savvy
Huni's trainer, Ben Warburton, said Nyika is a "tricky" opponent who will test Huni's skills.
"He's a very experienced boxer who has been around for a long time," Warburton said.
"He's a very good boxer and he's going to be a tough test for Justis."
Huni is confident of victory, but he knows he will have to be at his best to beat Nyika.
"I'm expecting a tough fight," Huni said.
"Nyika is a good boxer and he's going to come to win, but I'm confident that I can beat him."
Huni aims to impress against Nyika
Huni is hoping to impress against Nyika and earn a shot at a world title fight later this year.
"I want to put on a good performance and show everyone what I'm capable of," Huni said.
"I want to win this fight and then move on to bigger and better things."
Nyika relishing underdog status
Nyika is relishing his underdog status and is confident he can upset Huni.
"I'm going to go out there and do my best," Nyika said.
"I'm the underdog, but I'm not going to let that bother me."
"I'm going to go out there and give it my all. I'm going to shock the world and beat Justis Huni."
