The Spaniard was quick to climb out of the cockpit and report that he was okay, but his car was heavily damaged and required extensive repairs.

Oscar Piastri set the early pace in final practice for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola. The Australian, who is making his Formula One debut with Williams this season, clocked a time of 1m15940s on the soft tires, 0073s quicker than Max Verstappen in the Red Bull.
Piastri's time remained the fastest for much of the session until the red flags were out for Alonso's accident. The session was not resumed, so Piastri's time stood as the best of the weekend so far.
