A Life of Courage and Sacrifice

On the 25th of May, 2024, Poland marks the 80th anniversary of the tragic death of Rotmistrz Witold Pilecki, a legendary figure in Polish history and a symbol of resistance against Nazi tyranny.

A Volunteer for Infiltration

Pilecki's story is an extraordinary one. In 1940, he volunteered to infiltrate the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp to gather intelligence and organize a resistance movement from within. Under the alias "Tomasz Serafiński," he spent nearly three years in the camp, enduring unimaginable horrors while providing vital information to the outside world.

Escape and Continuing Resistance

In 1943, Pilecki successfully escaped from Auschwitz and joined the 2nd Polish Corps. Despite the dangers, he continued to fight against the Nazis, taking part in the liberation of Italy and France.

A Tragic End

After the war, Pilecki returned to Poland, where he was briefly imprisoned by the communist regime. In 1948, he was arrested on false charges and executed on May 25, 1948.

A Symbol of Courage

Witold Pilecki's legacy lives on as a shining example of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering determination. His actions not only inspired resistance in Auschwitz but also contributed to the Allied victory in World War II.

On this somber anniversary, we remember and honor the life and heroism of Rotmistrz Witold Pilecki, whose name will forever be etched in the annals of our nation's history.
