Voyager 1: Exploring Beyond

From the Solar System to Interstellar Space

A Historic Journey Continues

As of 2013, Voyager 1 was moving with a relative velocity to the Sun of about 61197 kilometers per hour (38026 mph). With this velocity, the probe continues its remarkable journey through the vastness of space.

Both Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 have reached interstellar space and each embark on their unique exploration of the universe. In January 2024, Voyager 1 was approximately 136 AU (15 billion miles or 20 billion kilometers) from Earth, making it the farthest object created by humans.

Despite its distance, the ground team continues to communicate with Voyager 1. Recently, a command was sent to recode part of the probe's memory. This demonstrates the ongoing effort to maintain contact with this iconic spacecraft.

Voyager 1's incredible speed is a testament to its engineering and the power of human ingenuity. Traveling at approximately 38000 mph (17 kilometers per second), it continues to explore the unknown, providing valuable insights into the mysteries of our universe.
